Port Bienville Boat Launch Modifications Construction Update 1/15/15

Jack Ferrill of Jack Ferrill's Heavy Equipment, operates the excavator to begin removing the concrete rubble from the existing boat ramp. Jon Glass (center) and Paul Jackson (left) are certified archaeologists. Due to the project being in close proximity to an archaeological site, the Corp of Engineers required close observation of demolition and excavating activities to verify if any existing artifacts were found. Jon and Paul are with TerraXplorations Company.

Paul Jackson observes material being excavated from the site of the proposed boat launch concrete ramp.

The photo above and series of photos below depict the delicate nature of excavation requirements. The contractor was required to use a smooth blade bucket and remove material in lifts of 6" or less to allow the area to be adequately observed by the archaeologists.

Construction is progressing well and the new boat launch should be open by Spring 2015.
